As of Monday, the City of Garland has officially welcomed Brian Morris as its new Code Compliance Director. Morris brings over a decade of experience, having worked in local government roles focusing on code compliance, inspections, and community engagement. A Georgia native, Morris began his public service in Fairburn back in 2012, eventually leading code enforcement in South Fulton before relocating to Texas in 2023.
Throughout his career, Morris has gradually built a reputation for making significant improvements and fostering community partnerships. Notably, his leadership in prior positions has been recognized with awards, including the accolade of National Code Enforcement Department of the Year from the American Association of Code Enforcement in consecutive years, once for his work in South Fulton and then again in Dallas. This speaks to his ability to deliver results repeatedly within the communities he serves.
Before entering public service, Morris had a successful stint in real estate as a broker and developer. This background has provided him with a practical understanding of land use and property standards, which has undeniably been an asset to his career in code compliance. According to an announcement by the City of Garland, he's well-equipped with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, an MBA, and numerous professional certifications from renowned institutions.
Outside of his professional commitments, Morris is described as a family man who enjoys traveling and reading and remains an ardent supporter of his hometown sports teams. He moved to Texas with his wife, son, and their mini-husky, maintaining his loyalty to the Falcons, Hawks, Braves, and Dawgs.
