The family of Albert Gonzales and Juan (Johnny) Gomez continues to seek answers nearly six years following the tragic shooting that claimed the lives of the two brothers in Glendale. On August 18, 2019, the brothers were fatally shot while asleep at a friend's residence near 63rd Avenue and Maryland, as reported by ABC15. According to the Glendale Police Department, there have been no substantial leads despite the case remaining active.
In a statement obtained by ABC15, the family expresses their enduring grief and the void left by the untimely deaths of Gonzales, 30, and Gomez, 28, at the time of the incident, who were also fathers to a combined total of seven children. "My brothers are missed. We miss them every day," said Desiree Cota, their sister. On the other hand, the police have yet to find sufficient evidence to make any arrests. Officer Moroni Mendez of the Glendale Police has mentioned that "There are persons of interest in this case, and the case is still active," confirming that the detectives believe people out there might hold crucial information to finally break the case.
Back in August 2019, family members worked tirelessly during a three-day car wash event to raise funds for the brothers' funerals. As reported by FOX10 Phoenix, Toni Cota, sister of the victims, expressed the family's determination to remain strong for the children of the deceased, ensuring the kids "never forget their dads and that's the most important thing right now for us."
Despite the passage of years, the call for justice persists unabated, with the family urging anyone with information to come forward. "We're doing everything and anything that we can to just get something, even if it's just the smallest tip," Desiree Cota told ABC15. The police are equally committed to solving the case, appealing to the public to provide any leads anonymously through Silent Witness, hoping to finally deliver the closure that the family of Gonzales and Gomez so desperately seeks.
