Ground has been broken, and the gears are in motion for Arizona's first Buc-ee's travel center, a business lauded for its pristine restrooms and a vast array of fresh food offerings. The Goodyear community, alongside city officials, gathered to mark the beginning of the construction phase of the project, as reported by Goodyear city news. Goodyear's Mayor Joe Pizzillo, together with City Council and City Manager Wynette Reed, stood with Buc-ee's executives to officially signal the start of the building process yesterday.
The Mayor's office is promoting the new center as an addition to Goodyear, postulating that "Buc-ee's is a destination and 80% of its business comes from outside the city, which means it won't take away from our existing businesses," according to Mayor Pizzillo, as noted by the city's official website. An estimation that the travel center will not detract from local commerce but rather contribute to the city's financial health and fund critical services. When the doors open in summer 2026, Buc-ee's will unveil a 74,000 square foot facility equipped with 120 fueling positions.
Known for snack-favorites like the Beaver Nuggets and Texas-style barbecue, Buc-ee's aims to bring its signature combination of diverse food options and high-quality service to the new Goodyear location. Arch "Beaver" Aplin, the face behind Buc-ee's, expressed enthusiasm for the company's first leap into Arizona. "We're really excited about our first location in Arizona and we're particularly pleased to be in Goodyear," Aplin expressed, as per the City of Goodyear.
Employment opportunities are a significant part of Buc-ee's package, with the incoming Goodyear site slated to create over 200 full-time jobs. Staff will be offered benefits that sit comfortably above the industry standard, including competitive pay, full health benefits, a robust 6% 401(k) match, and not to mention a generous three weeks of paid vacation. The economic ripple effect is anticipated, with the potential to lure additional businesses and tourists, enhancing the city's profile and potentially sparking a new wave of economic activities in the area.
