
In a notable advancement for the scientific community within Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has officially appointed Sir Professor Mallory Factor to the esteemed position within the Governor’s University Research Initiative (GURI), as announced in a statement made yesterday. The board under GURI, of which Factor will now become a key member, reviews funding applications for grants aimed at bolstering university research and offers recommendations to either give these applications the green light or not.
Factor, a man with a distinguished portfolio, has a substantial background in both academia and the business sector. He currently serves as Chairman, President, and CEO of IntraBio Inc. and as a Senior Visiting Fellow at the University of Oxford’s Department of Pharmacology. His previous roles include serving as the John C. West Professor at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. Factor’s public sector experience is extensive, having been an advisor in the U.S. Senate and the UK's House of Lords, as well as a member of the Board of Governors of the New York State Banking Department and Chairman of The New York Public Asset Fund.
According to the official announcement released by the Governor's Office, Factor’s experience isn’t confined to his impressive roles in the public sector. The multi-faceted professor has dipped his intellect into various biotechnology, technology, and manufacturing companies, applying his expertise to both the private and public spheres. Moreover, his learned presence has been recognized with lifelong membership in the Council on Foreign Relations and fellowship with Historic Royal Palaces.
Factor’s educational background is as distinguished as his career, including a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from Wesleyan University, and studies in Columbia University’s joint Business and Law Program.
