A teacher and football coach at Greenback Public School, Malcolm Gray Williams Jr., 58, faces charges of sexual battery stemming from an incident involving a custodian. According to an incident report obtained by WVLT News, the custodian alleged that Williams asked her to clean the field house and subsequently touched her inappropriately while she was performing her duties on April 25.

During the occurrence, the custodian reported being made to feel uncomfortable and told Williams to stop. The area near the field house where the custodian was working was where the initial request to clean the field house arose, as stated in the report. It was also alleged by the custodian that Williams had been drinking. After taking the complaint to her supervisor, it was escalated to law enforcement and the school administration by the injured party.

Williams was arrested on May 7 and charged with sexual battery, the Loudon County Sheriff's Office confirmed. According to WATE, he was placed on suspension pending the investigation. Loudon County Schools subsequently received a notice from Williams stating his intention to retire "effective immediately," a move that came before the conclusion of the inquiry.

Loudon County Schools released a statement, which was shared after the arrest, saying, "On April 28, 2025, Loudon County Schools received a report of possible inappropriate contact by a school system employee toward a private contractor," and emphasized their immediate response to the accusation by involving the sheriff's office. Williams, having stepped into his coaching position last September following an unrelated incident with the previous coach, has now left his post amidst controversy, according to a statement obtained by WBIR.
