A 16-year-old has been arrested in connection with a series of vehicle thefts and break-ins in Griffin, with police stating that residents of Coldwater Subdivision experienced a bout of seven vehicle break-ins and two car thefts last Friday. According to a report by FOX 5 Atlanta, the teen suspect was eventually detained after a brief pursuit when officers located one of the stolen vehicles.
Found with a key programming device that aids in the generation of working vehicle keys, authorities said the suspect also provided the location of the second stolen vehicle. Accused of using the device, the teen faces multiple charges including seven counts of entering auto, two counts of theft by taking (motor vehicle), and additional crimes as reported by Atlanta News First.
The police response to this spree of vehicular crimes was swift, as they issued an alert and commenced immediate searches within the subdivision. After trying to run away from the police, the 16-year-old suspect was caught and arrested while still inside one of the stolen vehicles. The ongoing investigation, as authorities confirmed, might unravel further details currently unknown to the public.
In an appeal to the community, Griffin Police are asking anyone with additional information to come forward and aid in the continuing investigation. "Anyone with information is urged to contact Investigator Hoard at [email protected] or by calling 770-229-6452," as disclosed in the statement obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta.
