The quiet of the night in Hammond was shattered by gunfire, resulting in a dire tableau that left a community reeling and a 2-year-old injured. Earlier yesterday, just before the strike of 3 a.m., a triple shooting occurred in the parking lot of a local establishment, The Soap Opera of Hammond. Hammond police arrived on the scene at 1001 North Morrison Boulevard following a distressing call, as reported by WDSU. A man was declared dead, and two others, including a toddler, were found injured.
Further details have emerged, tracing a narrative of a personal dispute turned fatal. It appears the shooting unfolded after a woman and Bradley Blount, 23, pulled into the parking lot — the same location that would become a crime scene. Accompanying them were two children, each a two-year-old belonging separately to the woman and to Blount. This quiet night took a tragic turn when the woman's ex-boyfriend, Janvourian Franklin, also 23, arrived with his sister, exchanging heated words before opening fire. As detailed by WWLTV, Blount suffered multiple gunshot wounds, while the woman and one of the toddlers also sustained injuries. All three victims were rushed to North Oaks Medical Center.
The investigation has led to the arrest of Janvourian Franklin, who now faces charges that resonate with the gravity of the incident. Alongside him, his sister, 20-year-old Demetriane Anderson, has been charged, implicating her as an accomplice in the events that unfolded. She is currently booked with one count of principal to first-degree murder and three counts of principal to first-degree murder. The affliction of such youth embroiled in violence weighs heavily on the minds of locals and law enforcement alike. "The bigger picture here is, it’s yet again young kids, 20-23 years old, going to guns … taking their anger out by shooting at each other," remarked a seasoned officer, according to FOX8Live.
