Authorities in Harris County are currently navigating the aftermath of two violent incidents that occurred over the weekend. KPRC 2 reports that a man, aged 22, was found deceased from a gunshot wound late Sunday night outside the Derby at Steeple Chase apartment complex on West Road. The initial call to sheriff's deputies at around 9:15 p.m. referenced a disturbance; such was the nature of the evening that when reports of a shooting came about five minutes later.

Deputies responded to find the young man, whose name has not been released, mortally wounded at the stairwell. Witnesses were detained alongside a woman believed to be associated with the death. A weapon was recovered at the scene, although it remains to be confirmed whether it was the one used in the fatal event, as reported by KPRC 2.

In a separate incident reported on the same morning, a man was shot by deputies in a confrontation that escalated swiftly. ABC13 states that after receiving a 911 call from a woman about her 47-year-old husband discharging a firearm into the air, deputies were dispatched to the 2600 block of Basil Point Court.

Upon arrival around 1:30 a.m., the suspect was not immediately visible. However, located eventually in the backyard and armed, he engaged with the officers. "When they looked out back window, they saw him sitting on back porch with a weapon in his hand. They looked to see what he was able to do, or not do with the gun, upon them opening the back door, the suspect pointed the gun at them, we think it may have discharged at that time, our deputies returned fire and the suspect fled," Assistant Chief Deputy Lofton Harrison of Harris County Pct. 1 told ABC13. After jumping a fence, the suspect was apprehended and taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

This individual is now facing charges of aggravated assault against a police officer and is under medical care. His history was questioned by a former neighbor who described him to ABC13 as a "real nice guy," expressing disbelief over the unfolding events. As per standard procedure, the deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave pending a review of the shooting. There were no other reported injuries in the incident.
