A Harris County woman has been taken into custody after a traffic accident revealed her to be driving under the influence with two minors in tow. Constable Mark Herman's Office reported that deputies arrived on the scene of the incident, which took place in the 6900 block of FM 2920, after receiving a call about a vehicle striking a light pole last Monday.
Upon arrival, the motorist, identified as Jennifer Hopson, exhibited several indications of impairment. The deputies' observation led to the inability for Hopson to undergo Standardized Field Sobriety Tests—which, is a critical step in assessing a suspect's level of intoxication. A subsequent warrant was acquired authorizing a blood specimen to further investigate her sobriety status. Inside the vehicle, law enforcement discovered Hopson's two children, who were later handed over to a guardian, following deputies contacting Child Protective Services to inform them of the events.
According to a Facebook post by Precinct 4, "Jennifer Hopson was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Driving While Intoxicated with Child Under 15 years of Age." The court dealt swiftly, setting Hopson's bond at $7,500 out of the 185th District Court.
