Community members with ties to McGovern Park Senior Center are getting a say in its future. Alderwoman Andrea M. Pratt is calling on locals to take part in a series of listening sessions aimed at gathering input on the redesign and renovation of the beloved community spot.

The sessions, which will be sprinkled throughout the month of May, offer a platform for those who frequent the senior center, and residents in the surrounding neighborhood to weigh in. Scheduled for Wednesday, 1-2:30 p.m., Thursday, from 6-7:30 p.m., next Wednesday, from 6-7:30 p.m., and next Thursday, from 6-7:30 p.m., at the McGovern Senior Center located on 4500 W. Custer Ave., the meetings are part of a collaborative effort with the Milwaukee County Department of Health & Human Services. "This is a great opportunity to have our voices heard and to learn more about the development of the senior center project," Alderwoman Pratt said, according to a statement.

With the goal of ensuring that the renovation aligns with the community's needs, the sessions will be a chance for the public to directly impact the decision-making process. Residents' insights and opinions are seen as vital to the reimagination of the space, enabling it to better serve the aging population and continue being a focal point of community activity.

The Department of Health & Human Services will oversee the gatherings and, in turn, incorporate the community feedback into the final plans. Updates on potential options for the new center will also be outlined during these engagements. Alderwoman Pratt is encouraging her constituency to "take advantage of these listening sessions to insure that the new center will align with the values, and needs of the community," her statement stressed.
