Residents of Hawaiʻi participated in the annual Trek the Trail event last Saturday. Organized by the County of Hawaiʻi, the event started and ended at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium. Participants rode on trails through Wailoa State Park, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
The Hawaii Police Department’s Trek the Trail event, part of a local health and fitness initiative, included bike patrol officers monitoring the routes for safety. At the finish area, there were arts and crafts vendors, live music, and food trucks. A bike safety course for children was provided by Chris Seymore. The police department “extends its sincere appreciation to all who participated in the annual Trek the Trail event.”
The police department distributed Keiki Identification cards to young cyclists who completed the safety course. These efforts by local law enforcement support community safety and engagement. The Hawaii Police Department plans to continue the event next year in partnership with the County of Hawaiʻi.
