The Hawai‘i Department of Health has announced a recall of ReptoMin 3-In-1 SELECT-A-FOOD, an aquatic turtle food made by Spectrum Brands Pet, LLC, due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled product was sold at Walmart stores in Hawai‘i and online through retailers like Chewy and Amazon. It comes in a plastic container with UPC 0 46798 78626 9 and lot code 951790, which is the only lot included in the recall, according to the Hawai‘i Department of Health.
Pet food sold in 1.56-ounce containers with a green label has been recalled. The food may carry Salmonella, which reptiles can carry without showing symptoms, but it can spread to humans and other animals. The Food and Drug Branch has contacted local stores to remove the product from shelves. The Hawai‘i Department of Health advises pet owners to seek veterinary care if their pet has eaten the product and shows signs such as "lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite and/or abdominal pain."
Spectrum Brands Pet LLC has recalled a product due to possible Salmonella contamination. People who handle the product or come into contact with infected animals may become sick, especially young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. No illnesses have been reported so far. Consumers should check the Universal Product Code and lot code, wear gloves to handle the recalled item, throw it away securely, and clean any surfaces it touched.
