The Hawaiʻi Public Libraries are launching the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge with the theme "Mele," which refers to poetry, chants, and storytelling. The challenge runs from June 1 through July 31 and invites library patrons to take part by reading and exploring literature, according to the Hawaii State Public Library System.
People can sign up to participate at their local libraries or online. The program encourages reading for all ages and offers prizes as incentives. These include McDonald’s snack cards, stickers, tote bags, snacks, and books. Participants who reach their reading goals will be entered for a chance to win four round-trip tickets from Alaska Airlines, as reported by the Hawaii State Public Library System.
The Hawaiʻi Public Libraries launched a new reading program called "E Heluhelu Kākou — Let’s Read Together!" to encourage community participation in reading and library events, as stated by the Hawaii State Public Library System.
