A hotel in the bustling district of Westlake experienced a sudden interruption yesterday evening when a heater fire broke out on its seventh floor. According to information from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the incident was reported under incident number 1406 and occurred at the address 1256 W 7th St.
Smoke detectors and water flow alarms triggered at approximately 06:57 PM, alerting the hotel occupants and firefighting personnel to the emergency. The LAFD's rapid response teams arrived shortly after to find that the hotel's sprinkler systems had already subdued the flames. "Firefighters discovered an apparent heater fire, put out by sprinklers, on the seventh floor," detailed the LAFD's alert. Companies stayed on scene post-fire to manage the aftermath, shutting down sprinklers and handling the consequences of fire and water damage to the building.
No injuries were reported in the ordeal, a fortunate outcome considering the potential for harm in such a populated structure. The hotel, a 14-story edifice familiar to both locals and visitors, found itself momentarily at the mercy of an all too common urban hazard—an electrical heater gone awry, a statement obtained by LAFD points out.
The efficiency of the hotel's fire suppression systems likely played a pivotal role in the prevention of what could have been a more devastating incident. The LAFD stressed the importance of such systems in their alert, having witnessed firsthand how a potential crisis was averted largely due to the sprinklers' timely intervention. "Companies remain on scene to shut down sprinklers and manage fire/water impact to the building," indicated the response team's after action review. The LAFD's Battalion 11, along with other units including FS 11, performed the necessary procedures to ensure the building's safety.
