The Henderson Police Department is tightening enforcement on seat belt usage with the return of the Click It or Ticket campaign. From May 5 through May 26, police will be on the lookout for unbuckled drivers and passengers in a bid to reduce roadway fatalities and injuries, as reported by the City of Henderson.

While patrolling the streets of Henderson, officers are set to conduct saturation patrols to pull over vehicles for traffic violations and concurrently check for seat belt compliance. As per Nevada law, not wearing a seat belt is a secondary offense, meaning officers can issue citations when stopping a vehicle for another infraction, according to the City of Henderson.

Click It or Ticket, a widely recognized seat belt enforcement program backed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has been deemed the nation's most successful campaign of its kind. "It is the country’s most successful seat belt enforcement campaign ever, helping create a national seat belt usage rate of about 91.2 percent for 2024," as reported by the City of Henderson's news release. Studies indicate the use of seat belts decreases the risk of fatality by nearly half for drivers and front seat occupants in the event of a collision.

Federal funds are supporting the local efforts, with Henderson Police Department securing a $179,000 grant through the Nevada Department of Public Safety – Office of Traffic Safety for the 2025 Joining Forces program. These funds will assist in facilitating the enhanced patrols and enforcement initiatives focused on improving community safety on the roadways, as per the City of Henderson.
