An 18-year-old has been brought into custody, charged with 2nd degree assault, fleeing police in a motor vehicle, and multiple counts of auto theft by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office's Violent Offender Task Force (VOTF). As reported by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, the chase ended when detectives deployed stop sticks to halt another stolen car the suspect was driving, which led to a pursuit on foot during which the accused pointed a gun at a VOTF detective before discarding it and eventually being detained.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is believed to be the individual seen in recent viral videos driving recklessly in a stolen vehicle. The incident unfolded last Thursday when VOTF detectives followed the suspect in an unmarked car, waiting for a safe opportunity to deploy stop sticks and end the pursuit. After the chase, the suspect and other occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. During the ensuing confrontation, the suspect—who was armed—was apprehended, and an illegally possessed handgun was recovered, as detailed by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.
