A routine traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase and led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and a loaded firearm. The incident began last Friday at 9:02 PM, when an officer attempted to stop a 2022 Honda Accord near Safeway for multiple California Vehicle Code violations. Despite initial compliance, the vehicle soon sped off onto Eastbound Highway 4.
Following a brief pursuit, the driver of the Honda Accord took an exit at Sycamore Ave and crashed through a fence, bringing the chase to an end in an adjacent field. The occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Inside the recovered Honda, officers discovered a loaded Springfield XD firearm. Supporting units from CHP, CCSO, the Richmond Police Department K9 unit, and Pinole Police Department swiftly responded and established a perimeter, according to a social media post by the Hercules Police Department.
A joint effort utilizing CHP's aerial unit located a 17-year-old male from Vacaville hiding in brush near the crash site. The teenager, who was not named due to his juvenile status, surrendered to authorities without further incident. Despite a meticulous search operation, no other suspects were apprehended that evening.
Further investigation confirmed that the Honda was reported stolen from Pittsburgh.
