
Hillsborough County Aging Services has recognized two seniors, Rubye Gordon and Arthur Phillips, with the 2025 Community Service and Volunteerism Award during Older Americans Month. The award highlights their ongoing service through the Ruskin Senior Center and surrounding areas.
According to the Hillsborough County website, Rubye Gordon, a military veteran, has volunteered for 11 years at the Ruskin Senior Center. She works as the lead front desk administrator and participates in local food pantry programs through St. Ann Catholic Church and Bethel Church. She also leads collection and distribution efforts and engages in educational and cultural activities such as teaching about historical figures and participating in the center chorus.
Arthur Phillips has contributed through music, teaching guitar and piano, directing a choir, and sharing original poetry. Since 2023, he has helped connect community members through music. He also supported food distribution efforts following hurricanes in 2024.
The award recognizes Gordon and Phillips for their continued contributions and involvement in community programs led by Hillsborough County Aging Services.
