Hillsborough County is seeking public opinion on its draft Balm Boyette Scrub Preserve Management Plan. As reported by HCFL Gov Newsroom, locals have a window of opportunity to weigh in on the stewardship of the preserve's ecosystems and facilities.
The Balm Boyette Scrub Preserve, a robust 4,933-acre habitat that forms part of the Alafia River watershed, is home to an array of wildlife and plant species. Featured among these are the Florida golden aster, indigo snakes, and the resilient gopher tortoises. The management and land use plan undergoes a comprehensive review every decade, this year's iteration is no exception, the County invites residents' feedback on its plans for the significant ecological treasure.
Over the course of these 10-year cycles, special attention is given to maintaining the preserve's 11 distinct habitats, largely unspoiled settings that harbor significant biological diversity. By extending the invitation to the public to share thoughts and concerns, Hillsborough County upholds a practice of including community voices in the conversation around environmental preservation and recreation management.
An in-person public meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on June 24 at the Riverview Public Library, situated at 9951 Balm Riverview Rd., Riverview, FL 33569., where officials will further discuss the management plan and field questions from the community.
