On Tuesday, Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies stopped a vehicle in what would unfold as a troubling display of firearms, narcotics, and child negligence at the corner of Riverview Drive and Moody Road, according to a Facebook post by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The car, which contained three adults and five children, was searched by the authorities who discovered drugs, drug paraphernalia, and two firearms, the intricacies of their intentions were not immediately clear; however, the proximity of such contraband to children painted a grim narrative. Herron Washington, 34, and Joseph Rider, 41, have been arrested on charges related to drugs, and Shakemya Washington faces accusations of five counts of Child Neglect and allowing an unauthorized individual to operate the motor vehicle.
Sheriff Chad Chronister addressed the gravity of the incident, stating, "The combination of illegal drugs, firearms, and children in a vehicle is reprehensible," and he commended his deputies for their swift action to safeguard the minors involved while apprehending the suspects. The authorities emphasized that these actions highlight their dedication to fostering security for the vulnerable and staunch efforts to eradicate perilous elements from our midst, as per the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Officials have not yet disclosed the relationship between the adults and children or the conditions that led to the vehicle's stop.
