
A homicide investigation is currently underway in Charlotte, following an early morning incident that resulted in one individual being fatally injured. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has disclosed, through a statement, that officers were called to the 1100 block of West Sugar Creek Road in the North Tryon Division today, responding to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon.
Authorities say that the victim managed to transport themselves to the hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound but later died as a result of their injuries. CMPD Homicide Unit detectives were promptly on scene to quickly commence an investigation, and the Crime Scene Search team was also deployed to thoroughly process the area and to collect any pertinent physical evidence.
Assisting the homicide investigation were CMPD’s Operations Command and Victim Services, alongside Charlotte Fire Department (CFD) and Medic, who responded in support. The CMPD has not yet released information concerning potential suspects or motives behind the shooting. The death marks yet another act of violence in a city grappling with the weight of gun-related incidents.
