Local authorities have cracked down on an illicit gambling den operating under the guise of a legitimate business at an establishment located in north Houston, uncovering a hive of illegal activities and seizing thousands in cash, according to a report from the office of Constable Mark Herman.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division of Harris County Precinct 4 conducted an undercover operation based on received tips, confirming illegal gambling activity at an establishment located at 4444 FM 1960 Rd W. The operation led to a raid during which officers seized approximately $13,000 in gambling proceeds, multiple illegal gambling devices, and related documentation.
The actions of law enforcement led to criminal charges against Vivian Chagoya, a business employee, specifically for possession of gambling device/equipment/paraphernalia, as per the Constable Precinct 4's official Facebook post. The crackdown revealed that multiple citizens were participating in illegal gambling activities at the location, which has raised concerns about the associated risks to community safety.
Constable Herman described the impact of illegal gambling operations, stating, "Illegal gambling establishments attract a wide variety of criminal activity that puts our community's safety at risk," and emphasized that "The proceeds from these establishments are used to fund very serious criminal enterprises." He also stressed the establishments run contrary to the "Peace and Dignity of the State of Texas." According to the Constable's office, such establishments are often linked to broader criminal networks under investigation.
