
At the 2025 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards, Houston-area educators and the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District school board were recognized for their contributions to education. According to Click2Houston, Abigail Eliezer from Klentzman Intermediate School received the Elementary Lifetime Achievement Award, earning $25,000 for herself and $25,000 for her school. Dr. Alicia Adkins from I.H. Kempner High School received the Secondary Leadership Award for her work in education.
Lamar Consolidated Independent School District's board of trustees received a $25,000 award from H-E-B for their leadership and dedication to student achievement. The recognition acknowledges their role in managing a growing district and addressing the needs of public education in Texas. Lamar Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Roosevelt Nivens praised their commitment, saying, "Our [LCISD] trustees are in a unique position to impact the lives of young people as well as the future of public education in Texas," as reported by Community Impact.
Retired Four-Star Admiral William McRaven gave the keynote speech at the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards, which recognized Texas educators for their contributions. The program awarded $480,000 to teachers, counselors, principals, and school districts across the state. Fifty individual educators, including some from the Houston area, were selected as finalists and interviewed by H-E-B representatives before the winners were announced. "At a time when public school educators face many challenges, it’s critically important that we honor the extraordinary individuals who are inspiring the next generation of Texans," said Winell Herron, H-E-B senior vice president, as mentioned by Community Impact.
