
A fire broke out at an apartment complex in Spring Branch East last Tuesday at 1370 Afton at Westview Dr. Firefighters responded quickly, dealing with smoke from the second floor of the two-story building. A total of 45 firefighters worked to control the fire and saved an estimated $900,000 in property value, according to the City of Houston.
There were injuries during the firefighting response. One firefighter became overheated and was taken to the hospital. Another firefighter had an accident but was checked at the scene and stayed on duty. Crews continued with a primary search and worked to ventilate the building, as reported by the City of Houston.
HFD Arson investigators determined that a kitchen fire was the accidental cause of a blaze that caused $350,000 in damage. Firefighters from multiple stations, including Stations 13, 50, 2, 5, 28, 38, 62, 6, 77, 9, 57, 33, and Rescue 42, responded and took steps to protect property by covering items with plastic sheeting, as stated by the City of Houston.
