A man has been charged with the murder of a contractor in connection with a series of events. The Harris County Sheriff's Office reports the arrest of 36-year-old Steven Eberly after a contractor's body was found in his home on the 4000 block of Tim Allen Court in north Harris County, as detailed by FOX 26 Houston.
Deputies were alerted to the incident at approximately 11 a.m. last Friday, following calls about a hit-and-run and the sighting of a dead body in a home. The alleged hit-and-run driver claimed that Eberly had solicited his help to move furniture, a request that led to the discovery of a body inside one of the boxes intended to be moved, as found in a report by FOX 26 Houston.
The deceased has been identified as Luis Silva Mendez, a contractor who was last seen by his family last Friday morning, according to ABC 13 Houston. Mendez's widow, Orfila Sara Lopez, emotionally recalled her husband's departure that day. "That morning, he gave me a lot of kisses, and told me he loved me a lot," Lopez told ABC 13 Houston.
Authorities claim Eberly, after allegedly taking Silva's life, attempted to conceal evidence by discarding the knife and Silva's phone. Coming from court documents, prosecutors allege that Silva was stabbed by Eberly who then tried to dispose of the items involved, a detail released by ABC 13 Houston. Currently, Eberly is being held on a $2 million bond, facing murder charges alongside two additional charges.
The incident has left neighbors and the community shocked, with one resident, Albert Pagan, telling FOX 26 Houston that it felt like something out of "the movies." Eberly's next court appearance is scheduled for June, and the case continues to draw attention from residents in north Harris County.
