After a fatal shooting that left one man dead on West Bellfort Avenue, Houston authorities have arrested 22-year-old Carltonio Jackson, who now faces murder charges. The incident, which transpired around 2:30 p.m. last Friday, resulted in the death of 35-year-old Phillip Ogiemwonyi, according to Houston Police Department's news release.
Officers from the Houston Police Department, alongside those from the Metro Police Department, were dispatched to the scene where they found Ogiemwonyi lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to the hospital by paramedics from the Houston Fire Department, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The HPD Homicide Division's detectives, S. Chettry and H. Martinez spearheaded the investigation that followed. Their efforts led to the release of surveillance photos of a man involved in an argument with Ogiemwonyi aboard a Metro bus, soon spiraling into violence when the suspect drew a weapon and fired the deadly shot.
This subsequent investigation brought Jackson into the fold, identifying him as the prime suspect. On Thursday, Jackson was charged, and by yesterday, he was in custody following a precise operation by the HPD SWAT team, as detailed by the Houston Police Department's update. Jackson was arrested without incident, and is currently held in the Harris County Jail.
The tragic event has been recorded under the incident number 067142625.
