Houston authorities are intensifying their manhunt for Carltonio Jackson, 22, the suspect charged with the murder of Phillip Ogiemwonyi, 35, following a fatal altercation on May 23. The Houston Police Department (HPD) and the Metro Police Department responded quickly to the shooting incident that occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. at 2200 West Bellfort Avenue, as reported by the City of Houston News.
Tragedy struck when an argument on the Metro bus led the suspect to draw a weapon and shoot Mr. Ogiemwonyi, who was found by officers suffering from a gunshot wound on the sidewalk. Charged with murder in the 179th State District Court, Jackson remains at large even as detectives from HPD's Homicide Division, S. Chettry and H. Martinez, released surveillance photos, soliciting public assistance to locate him, according to the City of Houston.
HPD officials described the onset of events, saying Ogiemwonyi was "transported to an area hospital by Houston Fire Department paramedics where he was pronounced deceased." Jackson was formally charged for his role in the incident this past Wednesday, May 28, according to statements published on City of Houston News. With Jackson's photo now shared, police are asking anyone with information about the case or his location to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
