The incident, first reported by KHOU, occurred on April 10 at approximately 11:45 p.m. when a black Mustang was reported stolen at gunpoint in East Houston.
Patrol officers from the Houston Police Department responded swiftly to the robbery report, initiating a search that led them to Lyons Avenue where the stolen vehicle was spotted. After an attempt to perform a traffic stop, the driver - identified as 18-year-old Ronny Leonardo Hernandez - led authorities on a chase. "Driver of the Mustang, shut the car off, shut the car off," commanded one of the officers before the vehicle sharply escalated away, as noted by KHOU. During this attempt to flee, Officer O. Martin, who had been on the force since June 2024, reportedly fired several shots at the vehicle as it drove off.
Accompanying Hernandez in the flight were Cristian Rolando Gutierrez Bonilla, 19, and Victor Jesus Rauda Lopez, 20, who both faced criminal trespass charges.
