Houston authorities are actively investigating an incident that resulted in the death of a 2-year-old girl yesterday. The fatal hit-and-run occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. at 3401 Ocee Street. As the police probe into the specifics of the devastating event, they are reaching out to the community for assistance in tracking down the vehicle and its operator responsible for the young girl's death, as reported by the City of Houston.
According to a report from the Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Fendia, and J. Baker, HPD officers initially arrived on the scene in response to a burglary call at an apartment complex. During their investigation, they were informed about the accident involving a child. The yet-to-be-identified victim was transported to a local hospital by family members, where, she was later pronounced dead by attending physicians. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is currently working to formally identify her and notify next of kin.
The initial coverage describes the events leading up to the discovery of the child. Reportedly, an adult family member was with the child in the parking area of the complex but briefly returned to their apartment upon realizing they forgot an item. Upon coming back to the parking lot, they found the little girl lying on the ground with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
Investigators are facing a challenge, as there is currently no description available of the suspect vehicle. The Houston Police Department's Hit and Run Unit is actively seeking anyone who might hold information that could lead to the resolution of this case. In an appeal to the public, the department urges anyone who knows anything to come forth and contact HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4065 or to deliver information anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
