An 18-wheeler collided with the Houston Avenue bridge, blocking eastbound traffic on the Katy Freeway. The truck, carrying large cylinders, struck the overpass because it was too tall, causing three eastbound lanes to close, according to Click2Houston.
The Houston Police Department closed the Houston Avenue bridge in both directions to assess damage after a truck hit the bridge. The bridge, which has had similar incidents in the past, was damaged but no injuries were reported, as per Click2Houston. Emergency crews responded to secure the area, and the bridge was closed while its condition was evaluated.
The I-10 White Oak Bayou project, which began in January 2025, includes plans to modify the Houston Avenue Bridge to reduce collisions with 18-wheelers due to its low clearance. The project is expected to take several years, with completion scheduled for late 2028, as mentioned by ABC13. During construction, there will be occasional closures of the bridge.
