U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in San Diego recently detained a previously deported Mexican national with a record of criminal convictions, furthering the agency's mission to enhance public safety. Announced via a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's press release, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) arrested 49-year-old Jesus Bahena last Thursday following his illegal reentry into the United States.
With previous convictions that include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Bahena was found to have re-entered the country without admission or parole despite multiple removals, ICE reported. Having obstructed law enforcement and dissuaded a witness, Bahena's past highlights a history of violation of federal laws.
Following his arrest by ERO San Diego, Bahena is now facing reinstatement of a prior removal order, as outlined in their notice of intent. "His case has been accepted for prosecution under Title 8, U.S. Code, Section 1326," ICE stated in the release. What's more, he was taken into custody by the Bureau of Prisons as he awaits arraignment before a U.S. magistrate judge.
ICE encourages the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or crimes to facilitate community safety. Laid out in simple terms by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, "Members of the public can report crimes and suspicious activity by dialing 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or completing the online tip form," the press release details for individuals looking to aid in these matters.
