Los Angeles police faced an intense standoff last Saturday when an illegal rooftop concert in Newton Division turned hostile. According to LAPD's official report, officers conducting patrols near 16th Street and Trinity came upon the unsanctioned event, which was reportedly organized via social media on a rooftop spanning parking lots at 1700 block of Trinity Street.
Despite the festive intent, the gathering quickly soured as attendees openly defied law enforcement. The property owner, who had not given his permission for the event, requested assistance to remove the trespassers. Adding to the chaos, a rooftop fire was ignited, necessitating response from the fire department, who stood ready but couldn't engage until police secured the surroundings. The situation escalated when officers, attempting to disperse the crowd, were met with violent resistance, including fireworks shot towards a police helicopter and various projectiles hurled at them.
The confrontation left four officers injured and forced the LAPD to declare the assembly unlawful.
