
A fatal collision in Las Vegas has claimed the life of a young pedestrian, marking the 59th traffic-related fatality in the jurisdiction this year. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that last Friday, at around 11:25 a.m., a northbound 2018 Chevrolet Malibu struck a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk on Buffalo Drive, just past Certitude Avenue. After the impact, the car also sideswiped a parked 2007 Toyota Camry. Despite emergency medical efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at UMC Trauma.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 37-year-old Keenan Jackson of Las Vegas, showed signs of impairment during field sobriety tests at the scene and was subsequently arrested. As reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Jackson has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center. The identity of the deceased pedestrian, an 18-year-old female from Las Vegas, is pending notification of next of kin.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are still investigating a recent crash involving a parked Toyota Camry. So far this year, there have been 59 traffic deaths in the city. More details will be shared as the investigation continues.
