An investigation is underway following the death of an inmate at the Multnomah County Inverness Jail, as announced by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. On Thursday morning, 49-year-old Sharon Lee Watkins was found unresponsive in her cell. Attempts to resuscitate her by jail and medical personnel failed, leading to her being pronounced dead at the scene.
Watkins, who had been in custody since Monday, became the subject of an on-site emergency when deputies and health staff found her without signs of life in her bunk around 8:00 a.m. Despite immediate life-saving measures and the subsequent arrival of paramedics who provided advanced medical intervention, she did not survive. The East County Major Crimes Team, formed by officers from various law enforcement agencies, including the sheriff's office and the Oregon State Police, has taken charge of the ongoing investigation.
The inquiry into Watkins's death is being conducted collaboratively with the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office, which is tasked with ascertaining the precise cause and manner of her death. However, authorities have not yet released additional details or comments regarding the circumstances surrounding Watkins's death at the county detention facility.
