A 31-year-old woman, Callen Lines, was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive in her cell at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility. The incident, which occurred on Monday, has prompted an investigation by the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit, under the close watch of the Citizens' Law Enforcement Review Board (CLERB). Lines had been in custody for a little over a day, facing multiple theft-related charges, among them vehicle theft and resisting an officer, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

On Monday evening, during an established round of supervisor checks at approximately 7:25 PM, sergeants discovered Lines in her cell without signs of life. They initiated CPR and called 9-1-1, with onsite medical staff joining in the attempt to resuscitate her. Santee Fire Department personnel assumed the efforts and transported the Lines to the local hospital. Despite these measures, she was declared deceased at around 8:15 PM, Hoodline has detailed. A Sheriff's Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to support the family, as has been standard in such circumstances.

The Sheriff's Office has publicly extended its sympathies to the family and others affected by Lines' untimely passing. "The San Diego Sheriff's Office extends our sympathies to the Lines family and all those affected by Ms. Lines' passing," a statement said. The Medical Examiner’s Office is set to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, which remains unclear at this point.
