Authorities in Fayette County are in the midst of an investigation following the unsettling discovery of a body in the Monongahela River last night. As per reports from WTAE, the corpse was retrieved from the river near the Brownsville Bridge, which serves as a connector between Brownsville and West Brownsville. The disquieting discovery was made just before the 5 p.m. threshold.
When the body was found by a barge operator floating in the river near West Brownsville, the time was approximately 4:30 p.m., as stated in a separate article by WPXI. According to the Fayette County dispatch, affiliates from Pennsylvania State Police arrived at the scene to oversee the extraction and initiate their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The body, belonging to a male individual speculated to be between 30 and 50 years of age, has not yet been identified. In a statement, Washington County Coroner Tim Warco revealed the case's distressing details, including how a barge operator discovered the man, who then notified police. Underlining the gravity of the situation, Warco is urging anyone with information about a missing man fitting that age profile to contact his office at 724-228-6785. Similarly, information can be channeled to the Belle Vernon barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police at 724-929-6262, who are actively leading the ongoing inquiry.
