A tragic incident unfolded in East Columbus as a man and a woman were found dead in what police are investigating as a potential murder-suicide. The shootings occurred yesterday afternoon in a home situated on the 400 block of South Hampton Road, near Fairmoor Elementary School. 10TV reported that the Columbus Division of Police responded to the scene shortly after 3:20 p.m. following a report of the shooting.
Described as older adults, the victims were found unresponsive in the home by a relative who came to check on them after some time without communication. A firearm was located inside near one of the deceased, according to ABC6, adding a stark backdrop to the scene where both victims suffered gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced both individuals dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, with details scarce as Columbus police work to piece together the events leading up to the deaths. A family member, having not heard from one of the victims for some time, was checking on them when the grim discovery was made. The Columbus Dispatch quoted police spokesperson Sgt. James Albert, who clarified the status of the investigation, said, "It is too early to tell if the deaths are a result of a murder-suicide or a double homicide." Sgt. Albert also mentioned that police are on the lookout for possible suspects.
