Jacksonville Man, Devonne Rivers, Charged with Double Murder While Already Incarcerated for Separate Gang-Related Crime

Authorities in Jacksonville have charged a 20-year-old, Devonne Rivers, for his alleged involvement in a double murder that occurred in April 2024. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office detailed the arrest on their social media, noting that Rivers was apprehended while already behind bars for a separate gang-related incident. In a statement from their Facebook page, the Sheriff's Office said, "Our Homicide detectives immediately began investigating, carefully reviewing all available evidence."

The victims, 45-year-old Travis Williams and 40-year-old Anton Brown, were discovered last year in a vehicle with bullet holes on Garden Street near Old Kings Road. After receiving calls from concerned residents about the vehicle blocking the street, patrol officers arrived to find the men dead at the scene. In connection with this case, Rivers, who was already incarcerated for a separate December 2024 gang-related ambush shooting, now faces additional charges, with the Sheriff's Office working alongside the State Attorney's Office "to ensure justice is served for the families of Williams and Brown."

While Rivers' connection to the double murder was not specified by the authorities, the charge lingers heavily on his time already spent in the Duval County jail. The case has caught the attention of the local community, prompting discussions on social media platforms regarding the prevalence of gun violence and the effectiveness of law enforcement in addressing gang-related activities in Jacksonville.
