The City of Jacksonville has partnered with Microsoft to launch a series of transparency dashboards designed to improve access to government data. Recognized by Microsoft, the initiative is part of an effort led by Mayor Donna Deegan to enhance public engagement through real-time data and user-friendly analytics.
Jacksonville residents now have access to a broad set of city data through dashboards developed by the Technology Solutions Department. The information includes details on public infrastructure, literacy programs, and budget allocations. The dashboards operate using Microsoft Azure and Power BI platforms, as Jacksonville's official news release reports.
"Transparency is the cornerstone of good governance," Mayor Deegan said, and her statement describes the intended function and goals of the dashboards. "They invite our residents into the conversation, helping us build a more informed, engaged, and empowered Jacksonville," she told the City of Jacksonville. The implementation of the dashboards has resulted in immediate operational changes, with the automation and streamlining of processes previously done manually saving more than 600 staff hours across two dashboards. This has allowed staff to allocate time to other tasks and services.
Wanyonyi Kendrick, Chief Information Officer for the City of Jacksonville, stated that the initiative addresses more than operational efficiency. "Mayor Deegan’s Transparency Dashboards are more than a tool—they’re a cultural shift." Kendrick described the dashboards as tools designed to support resource alignment, minimize waste, and improve outcomes within the community. In discussion with the City of Jacksonville, Kendrick noted that the system is intended to convert raw data into practical information, with a focus on enhancing accountability and transparency.
Jacksonville is utilizing enterprise-grade cloud solutions to expand its digital infrastructure. With support from Microsoft, the city is implementing technology aimed at improving data accessibility and operational processes. This approach reflects ongoing efforts by local governments to integrate digital tools into public service systems.
