Those who regularly traverse U.S. Route 54 in Jefferson City will need to brace for new traffic adjustments as the bridge rehabilitation over Linden Drive and Stadium Boulevard gears up for its next phase. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, starting on the evening of next Tuesday, there will be a switch in the traffic flow to facilitate work on the right lanes of the Stadium Boulevard overpass and the eastbound Linden Drive overpass. This traffic shift is projected to extend across several days, during which motorists are advised to exercise caution and patience.
With the advancement to this second phase, there'll be additional ramp closures impacting both the ingress and egress around the construction zone. "The eastbound U.S. Route 54 off-ramp to Madison Street," and "the westbound U.S. Route 54 off-ramp to Stadium Boulevard," are the new closures, joining the already closed "Madison Street on-ramp to westbound U.S. Route 54," and "Christy Drive on-ramp to eastbound U.S. Route 54," according to details released by MoDOT. Commuters should be prepared for possible delays, especially during peak hours and weekends.
Diligence on the road is of utmost concern as the construction persists. The 11-foot width restriction and speed limits as low as 35 mph continue to apply as safety measures during this phase. These conditions are projected to last until mid-October, yet contractors have been offered incentives for finishing the job sooner. MoDOT reminds motorists that while most vehicles fit within the 8-foot-6-inch width limit, those with loads exceeding this standard will need to secure an over-dimension permit from MoDOT’s Motor Carrier Services.
In their communication with the public, MoDOT emphasizes the importance of collaboration to ensure safer roadways. "MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones,” as stated on their website. The message is clear: caution and adherence to traffic laws remain paramount for everyone's safety as these infrastructure improvements progress.
