An overnight collision on Missouri Route 21 has resulted in injuries for a Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy and the driver of a pickup truck. The crash occurred earlier yesterday as both vehicles were traveling northbound, according to FOX 2 Now. While the specific cause of the crash remains uncertain, the incident happened around 3:15 a.m., near Highway 141, and was possibly influenced by heavy fog in the area.
As reported by First Alert 4, the deputy and the other driver were both taken to the hospital with moderate injuries after the crash, which occurred approximately around 5 a.m. The deputy has since been treated and released. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is currently leading an investigation to decipher the full circumstances of the accident.
Further details from KSDK News describe that the sheriff's deputy, in his 2018 Ford Taurus, was attempting to merge back onto the highway from the right shoulder near mile marker 183 when the collision with the 2005 Dodge Ram occurred. Grant Bissell, a spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, disclosed that the deputy was conscious and alert following the crash, but did suffer some injuries.
"The driver of a 2005 Dodge Ram was in the right lane and swerved to try to get out of the way, but the truck struck the squad car," explains the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, acquired by KSDK News.
