Runners and walkers alike, mark your calendars for the upcoming family-friendly 5K/3K event hosted by the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Advisory Board and Skylift Garage Doors. Scheduled for June 7 at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road, this event celebrates National Trails Day with a bit of competition and a lot of heart.
According to the Town of Wake Forest's recent announcement, check-in upstairs kicks off at the early hour of 7 a.m. and runners will take their marks at 8 a.m. For those preferring the ease of the internet, online registration is ongoing at their official site.
Participants interested in the 5K can expect a registration fee of $40 if they sign up between May 15 and June 5, increasing slightly to $45 for the procrastinators registering the day before or on race day. Meanwhile, 3K registrants are looking at $35 in the prior timeframe and $40 when the anticipation has built up just before the event takes place. It's worth noting, same-day registrations are welcome for those who wake up ready to hit the ground running.
The run isn't only about the personal challenge; it's for a cause bigger than the individual strides taken by each participant. The funds collected through entry fees will nourish the maintenance and growth of greenways in Wake Forest. Parents with little ones need not worry—in fact, strollers are welcome, placed behind all the runners for everyone's safety at the starting line.
Recognition awaits at the finish line. Awards will be given out to the quickest overall male and female in both the 5K and 3K, and age-based categories in the 5K will receive accolades as well, as per the Town of Wake Forest's announcement.
