Construction is underway in the Jordan Neighborhood as infrastructure upgrades begin on North Sheridan Avenue between North 30th Avenue and North 26th Avenue. CenterPoint Energy announced the project this week, with plans to install a new steel gas main to improve safety and service reliability. Completion is expected by early July, according to CenterPoint Energy. The company is working with licensed contractors, who will carry CenterPoint Energy identification cards. Residents are advised to verify identification before allowing anyone access to their property.
As part of the preparation, public underground utilities are being marked with spray paint and flags. Residents are encouraged to mark private features, such as sprinkler systems or pet fences, to avoid accidental damage during excavation. The large-diameter gas main will be installed along the west side of Beech Street. Temporary trenches and backfilled areas, using materials like dirt or gravel, may remain in place until full restoration is completed after service work. Road closures will occur in phases during the steel main installation. Detours will be posted, and local access will be maintained throughout the project.
