An arrest has been made in the case of a three-alarm fire that ravaged a Harris Teeter store in north Charlotte, as reported by Queen City News. The suspect, whose identity is protected due to being a juvenile, was taken into custody by authorities today. The fire, which occurred last Saturday night, led to an estimated $500,000 in damages.
Engulfing the Davis Lake Parkway location, it took 90 firefighters roughly 70 minutes to wrest the blaze under control, a struggle confirmed by the Charlotte Observer. This recent event follows a previous January incident wherein items on a shelf were set ablaze at another Harris Teeter in south Charlotte.
A statement from Harris Teeter obtained by Queen City News expresses gratitude towards those who responded and aided in the aftermath: "Following the diligent work of our local emergency responders, professional restoration companies, and the Health Department, we are pleased to reopen The Shops at Davis Lake Harris Teeter on Monday, May 19, at 6 a.m. Safety remains our top priority, and we’re incredibly grateful to those who have worked alongside our valued associates to prepare for reopening safely."
While details on the charges have not been fully disclosed, the Charlotte Fire Department has released information concerning the arrest, noted by WCCB Charlotte. Firefighters initially responded to smoke showing on Saturday night at the location near West W.T. Harris Boulevard. The store is set to resume its regular hours following a multi-day closure to contend with the damages and necessary repairs.
