
Firefighters from Kaua‘i Fire Department and other agencies responded to a brush fire in Kōke‘e near the junction of Kōke‘e Road and Waimea Canyon Drive early Wednesday morning. According to the Kaua‘i Fire Department official reports, the fire was first reported shortly before 6 a.m. and had grown to an estimated 2 acres by 7 a.m. Although the fire was expanding, no threats to structures or injuries were reported at that time.
The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency kept an eye on the fire while fire crews and state officials responded quickly. Some roads, including parts of Waimea Canyon Drive and Kōke‘e Road, were closed for safety but reopened later that day. State officials took over from the Kaua‘i Fire Department around 6 p.m.
Fire crews from Hanapēpē and Waimea, along with Rescue 3, Tender 1, Air 1, Air 2, Public Works, and county and state officials, all worked together to fight the brush fire, as per the Kaua‘i Fire Department. Their teamwork helped control the threat and protect the area.
