The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife has announced that the Keanakolu Bunkhouse and Ranger cabins in the Hilo Forest Reserve are now available for booking seven days a week. Previously limited to weekend stays, the cabins can now be reserved any day, according to the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

Cabins located at 6,000 feet elevation, previously available only from Friday to Saturday, are now open for booking any day of the week. Surrounded by an orchard, the cabins offer visitors flexible scheduling and access to outdoor activities, as reported by the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

The Keanakolu Bunkhouse and nearby Ranger cabins on Hawaiʻi Island are now more available for public use. They are located near plum, apple, and apricot trees, which produce fruit from June to October. A permit is required to pick the fruit and can be obtained online or at the Division of Forestry and Wildlife Hawaiʻi Island District Office in Hilo. The expanded access allows for both short and extended stays in the area, as stated by the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
