An officer-involved shooting on May 9 has turned a domestic dispute into a fatal encounter, involving law enforcement personnel from both the Mohave County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) and the Bullhead City Police Department (BHCPD). The incident unfolded when MCSO was called to a residence in Kingman, Arizona, after reports of a hostile situation between two roommates, where one male threatened the other and spoke of dousing the home in gasoline. According to a report from the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit, the events escalated despite hours of negotiation.

Negotiators spent several hours attempting to peacefully resolve what had escalated to a barricade situation. The suspect had entrenched himself in a bedroom, armed and unyielding, declaring his readiness to engage with law enforcement, which culminated when he confronted the assembled enforcement officers with a firearm, resulting in the discharge of weapons from three MCSO deputies and one BHCPD officer. The suspect, 56-year-old Jack Lagerwey, despite urgent medical attention following the shooting, was pronounced dead at Kingman Regional Medical Center.

Throughout the ordeal, none of the law enforcement on site sustained injuries, including MCSO deputies Robert Sines, James Seay, and Nasia Shrader, as well as BHCPD Officer Emilio Marin, all of whom discharged their service rifles during the fatal event. Details concerning the officers involved and their service records were disclosed in the aftermath, highlighting decades of collective field experience amongst the responders.
