The National Weather Service in Knoxville has issued a detailed forecast warning of a possible severe weather outbreak across the region. As of today, Knoxville is experiencing fair weather with a temperature of 75°F and calm winds. However, conditions are expected to deteriorate with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, potentially severe, before noon, as per the National Weather Service.
Going into the night, the chance of precipitation is 90%, with forecasts suggesting showers and thunderstorms likely before 3 AM, followed by a series of showers and possible thunderstorms throughout the early morning hours. Residents should prepare for heavy rainfall, with new rainfall amounts expected to reach between three-quarters and one inch. The forecast for the following days indicates a mixture of cloudy skies, chances of showers, and thunderstorms stretching into next week with similar hazardous conditions.
In a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service, Morristown, TN, authorities mention, "A few strong to severe storms are possible during the day on Friday but confidence is low for overall storm coverage." They also highlight that, "Higher confidence exists for strong to severe storms to occur Friday night into Saturday morning," with potential for damaging straight-line winds up to 70 mph and large hail up to 1.5 inches, as well as low probabilities of tornadoes.
Amid the turbulent forecasts, the outlook suggests that isolated strong to severe storms will remain possible, especially in the southern Plateau and southeast Tennessee on Sunday and Monday, and more broadly by Tuesday. "A more widespread outbreak of severe storms are possible for Wednesday with damaging winds and hail. There is a good deal of uncertainty of the extent and timing of these thunderstorms," states the National Weather Service. Spotters are likely to be activated Friday evening into Saturday morning as a precaution. Area residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and have multiple ways to receive weather updates and emergency alerts.
