A driver is currently in custody following a DUI hit-and-run incident in La Vergne that resulted in a vehicle striking a residence before the suspect fled the scene, as informed by the local Police Department. The event occurred late at night on May 17 and, fortunately, did not result in injuries to the occupants of the home. According to a social media post by La Vergne Police Department, K9 Sgt. Darby was crucial in obtaining the description of the suspect's vehicle, enabling its swift location by officers.
With only 20 minutes elapsed before the vehicle was spotted traversing Old Nashville Highway, officers conducted a traffic stop to mitigate further potential hazards that, already shortly after midnight, could have risked further public safety mishaps. Following the stop, Officer Jordan took charge of the investigation and performed field sobriety tests on the driver, which led to the suspect being detained under suspicion of driving under the influence. Subsequent checks uncovered that the driver additionally had active warrants from Smyrna for felony evading and a prior DUI.
The actions of La Vergne's police force that night serve to illustrate how quick response and effective collaboration among law enforcement can be pivotal in safeguarding the community. "This is yet another example of how our officers’ swift action and teamwork directly contribute to public safety," elaborated the La Vergne Police Department in their report. The department also expressed gratitude to both Sgt. Darby and Officer Jordan for handling the incident with an emphasis on swiftness and security.
Reaffirming their stance on public protection, the La Vergne Police called attention to their prioritization of resident safety in their statement, crediting their officers with maintaining a vigilant presence. Residents are being reminded, after removing a dangerous individual off the streets who showed a blatant disregard for the wellbeing of others, to stay observant and report any suspicious activities. "If you witness suspicious or reckless behavior, don’t hesitate to call," advised the police department, underscoring their proactive approach to community defense.
