Last night, a routine traffic stop in La Vergne turned into a substantial drug bust, with officers arresting two individuals on multiple felony charges. The La Vergne Police Department shared details of the incident in a social media post, revealing that around 11:55 P.M., Officer Gad pulled over a car for a suspended license plate at the intersection of Murfreesboro Road and Fergus Road.
Upon request, Sgt. Darby and his K9 partner, Turbo, arrived to assist. A "free-air sniff" of the vehicle conducted by K9 led to the discovery of several baggies with a crystal substance, likely illegal narcotics, as well as drug paraphernalia. The presence of digital scales, multiple hypodermic needles, and doses of Narcan further complicated the matter, signaling an operation that was likely deeper than possession alone. "Both the driver and passenger were taken into custody," as mentioned in the official police statement.
According to the La Vergne Police Department, the driver now faces charges that include felony Schedule I, felony Schedule II, drug paraphernalia, and driving under the influence. The passenger was slapped with charges of felony Schedule I, felony Schedule II, and possession of drug paraphernalia. These arrests underscore an ongoing effort by local law enforcement to scourge the threat of drugs from their community, arresting not only those who carry but those who supply.
The La Vergne Police Department expressed gratitude for the officers and the K9 unit involved, stating, "We want to thank Officer Gad, Sgt. Darby, and K9 Turbo for their outstanding work in removing these threats from our community." Law enforcement officials continue to emphasize the importance of community involvement in their fight against drug distribution and impaired driving. They urge residents to report any suspicious activity, reinforcing the axiom that it takes a village, not just a police force, to keep streets safe from such menaces.
